About the event
Experience the fur trade era of the 1830s at the Annual Spring Mountain Free Trappers Mountain Men Rendezvous on October 26-28, 2018 at the Spring Mountain Ranch State Park in Blue Diamond, Nevada (just west of Las Vegas in the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area).
On the last weekend of October, Spring Mountain Ranch State Park will host a gathering of costumed re-enactors who bring the fur-trade of the 1830s to life. A village of tee-pees, lean-tos and tents springs to life as the hard-bitten trappers and explorers gather to compete, joke, and trade with each other, and to teach visitors what life was like when “Nevada” was just an unexplored region on the map. There is no charge for admission to this event beyond the normal $10.00 per vehicle park entry fee.
Public Welcome – Admission Free (beyond the normal $10.00 per vehicle park entry fee)
The Spring Mountain Free Trappers Mountain Men Rendezvous is held once a year, with traders and a Primitive Village. Some participants stay in a separate modern section in their “Tin Teepees”. Rendezvous events are set up to be a challenge to any “Buck Skinner” who wishes to test his or her skill against any other “Free Trappers”. Public spectators are always welcome.
Learn the satisfaction of throwing a tomahawk. Hear the solid “thunk!” as it lands in a log target. Taste savory stew from a Dutch oven. Test your wits and resolve as you haggle with a fur trader in his tee-pee. Thrill to the crack of muskets at a mountain man target shooting contest. Watch your children bend a bow and loose an arrow for the first time. Learn what drove the first Europeans to explore the harsh desert that we call home at the Spring Mountain Free Trappers Mountain Man Rendezvous!
